Youssoufa Moukoko sets sights on more playing time at Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund youngster Youssoufa Moukoko wants to play more and avoid injuries next season.

17-year-old Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko has put his injury-hit 2021/22 season behind him.

Speaking to Kicker about his goals for next season, the young striker stated:

“I definitely want to gain more match practice, score more goals and stay injury-free at all costs.

“Now I have a break and can take a breather, and then I can fully attack next season. I’m extremely motivated,” added the striker, who scored two goals in 16 Bundesliga games through the 2021/22 campaign.

Expectations are huge for Moukoko, who scored goals for fun at youth level, and he is confident he can handle the pressure.

“You just have to learn to deal with it. I have people around me who keep saying things. My parents, advisors. I think I can handle it. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone – just myself. That’s what I’ve learned.”

Moukoko has scored three goals in two games for Germany’s U21 side this month. Most recently, he bagged a brace in a 2-1 win over Poland yesterday.

“My role is to score goals. Here I get confidence from the coach, he told me from the start: ‘I’m counting on you.’ That has given me tremendous confidence. In the end, I do the things I’m good at on the pitch and that just works.”
