Tottenham to ‘battle’ with Arsenal for Edu’s dream £59m transfer target

Tottenham will compete with Arsenal to try and sign Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus if recent reports are to be believed.

Spurs beat the Gunners to the final UEFA Champions League spot on Sunday afternoon following a convincing 5-0 win over Norwich City, condemning their local rivals to a fifth-placed Premier League finish. And according to The Telegraph, the Lillywhites are keen to further frustrated Mikel Arteta and Co by joining the race to try and sign City frontman Jesus this summer.

football.london understands that the 25-year-old is on Arsenal’s shortlist of profiles whilst technical director Edu has held talks with the player’s representatives in recent months. Jesus, who is valued at between €50million-€70million (£42million-£59million) by CIES Football Observatory, has struggled for consistent game time this season and City have signed Norway hitman Erling Haaland which makes a summer exit from the Etihad Stadium more likely.

The Brazilian international also has just over a year on his current deal with the Citizens and his agent Marcelo Pettinati recently admitted that a move to the Gunners is a possibility for his client. “We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus, we like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing,” Pettinati told transfer guru Fabrizio Romano earlier this month.

“There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel – he’s focused on final games with Man City, we’ll see.” The former Palmeiras forward netted 13 goals and provided a further 12 assists across all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign, impressive reading considering he played just 2,570 minutes, meaning he bagged a direct goal contribution ever 102.8 minutes.
