Werder Bremen are just one of the Bundesliga cubs who are looking at bringing in Maxi Mittelstädt from Hertha Berlin, according to Bild and Sky Germany.
The 25-year-old left-back is an experienced Bundesliga defender who has made over 150 appearances in the league for Hertha. However, this season Mittelstädt has been out of favour and only featured twice under head coach Sandro Schwarz.
With his contract running out in the summer, it’s likely that Hertha would want to sell him this winter or perhaps let him leave on a free transfer in the summer. Currently on €1.8m a year, it’s likely that the native Berliner will have to take a pay cut as he looks for regular playing time at other Bundesliga sides.
Werder Bremen are joined by VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg in the hunt for Mittelstädt’s signature. As per the reports, Bremen have shown the most interest who are looking to strengthen their defensive ranks and offload older players such as Tony Jung (31).
