‘Magnificent’ £86m star ‘would fit DNA’ at Old Trafford

Manchester United target Joao Felix would fit the club’s DNA, believes journalist Steve Bates.

The Atletico Madrid forward is one player the Red Devils are thought to be considering going into the January transfer window.

Man United transfer news – Joao Felix

The reliable Fabrizio Romano recently told GiveMeSport that United have spoken to super-agent Jorge Mendes about his client Felix.

And a move to the Premier League could very well be something that the 23-year-old is interested in, with transfer insider Dean Jones revealing that the player is open to a switch to England.

If United or any other club want to buy Felix, though, they are going to have to pay a lot of money.

According to the Evening Standard, Atletico have placed an £86m price tag on the Portuguese star’s head.

What has Steve Bates said about Joao Felix and Man United?

Bates thinks Felix could be a good fit for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid has expressed a desire that he might want to leave there. He is a young player that would fit Man United’s DNA going forward, so I think United will have a busy period.”

Why is Joao Felix being linked with a move to Man United?

Some at Atletico may not want Felix to leave the Wanda Metropolitano next month. The Portugal international is a player with a lot of talent and potential.

Earlier this year, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo told AS and the Spanish media that Felix is a “magnificent footballer”. However, for whatever reason, it has not quite worked out for him in La Liga.

This season, for example, he has only made five league starts for Diego Simeone’s side, as per Transfermarkt. For someone who cost £113m, according to BBC Sport, it is a bit surprising.

From Felix’s perspective, then, a move next month makes sense. As for United, they, of course, just lost Cristiano Ronaldo after the termination of his contract. As a result, they are likely to enter the market for a new attacker, so it is far from a shock to hear that they have looked at the former Benfica man.

What would be a shock, however, is if they or one of their rivals actually pay Atletico’s asking price for Felix, who simply has not done enough in the Spanish capital to justify that fee.
