Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could still remain at Ibrox beyond the current campaign despite the ongoing speculation surrounding his future, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Gers in recent months as his current £33,000-per-week contract is due to expire next summer.
Rangers transfer news – Alfredo Morelos
Michael Beale has recently taken charge of Rangers following the dismissal of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and sorting the future of Morelos and Ryan Kent will be near the top of his agenda.
Kent is in an identical situation to the Colombia international, and Beale admitted that he would ‘ideally’ like to retain their services in an interview with Sky Sports.
“Sometimes a player wants to see and take their time, there’s no problem, it’s fine,” said the 42-year-old tactician. “I think the option is both ways with the players, the cards aren’t in Ryan and Alfredo’s hands.
“We also want to create a stronger Rangers going forward, with or without those players. Ideally with them.”
January will be the last opportunity Rangers get to receive a fee for both Morelos and Kent, meaning decisions will have to be made over their futures imminently.
What has Jones said about Morelos?
Jones has refused to rule out the prospect of Morelos putting pen to paper on fresh terms and staying with the Glasgow giants as it is a scenario football has witnessed many times before.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “We’ve seen this so many times. It looks like a player’s going and going and going, and then suddenly, they’re staying.
“So, I just wouldn’t write it off until we see how he starts the season when it gets underway again.”
How has Morelos played this season?
Morelos has been far from his best in the early stages of the season, registering just three goals and one assist in 19 appearances across all competitions.
The South American has lost his place in the starting XI to summer signing Antonio Colak and has been unable to stop his side from slipping nine points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership standings.
Beale will surely be hoping his return to Rangers can spark an upturn in form for Morelos, though, given the ability he has shown throughout his 243-game stint at the club.
Only time will tell where the stocky forward will be plying his trade next term, but Rangers are likely to want this saga to come to a conclusion in January.
