Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio has said that he expects to discuss his future with the club when he returns from international duty with Spain.
The 26-year-old featured as a sub in Spain‘s draw against the Czech Republic after being an unused sub in the draw with Portugal.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Thursday’s game away to Switzerland, Asensio was asked about his club future and he feels there are three options on the table.
“I’ve got a year left on my contract and I’m focused on the national team,” said Asensio.
“When the international games are over, we’ll talk. We’ll see what I’ll do with my future.
“When it comes to renewing or leaving, I think there are actually three options, because there’s also the option of staying and fulfilling my contract.”
The Majorcan player has been in and out of the side for club and country and, now 26-years-old, was asked about how important being a starter is to him.
“It’s something I’ve been looking for lately. I feel that confidence is important,” said Asensio.
“This year has been good. There was a stretch this season at Madrid where we managed it.
“What I’m looking for is for that continuity to be not just for a few months but a whole season.”
Comparing his head coach at club and international level, Asensio is lucky to work with two of the best in the business, although both are very different.
“For me Carlo Ancelotti is a football genius, while Luis Enrique is a great coach who has achieved great things,” said Asensio.
