Mainz’s Nebel heads to Karlsruhe on one-year-loan

FSV Mainz 05 and the Karlsruher SC confirmed a one-year-loan in the 2. Bundesliga for 19-year-old winger Paul Nebel on Monday.

One of the Mainzer youngsters forced into the senior squad early last season will spend the 2022/23 campaign in Germany’s second footballing division. The Rheinhessen confirmed a one-year-loan for 19-year-old Paul Nebel on Monday. The Germany U20 international will be headed to Baden without a purchase option.


“For young talents like Paul, it is important for their development that they play as much as possible,” FSV sporting CEO Christian Heidel remarked when explaining the move,”We view a move to second-division-side Karlsruher SC as the right step to get the requisite playing practice.”

“Paul is avery talented lad,” KSC personnel boss Oliver Kreuzer noted in a statement, “He can be used completely flexibly in attack, can operate with his speed on both flanks as well as directly behind central up top.”

Nebel has made a total of 16 appearances with the FSV senior team. He started on the first two matchdays of the season just completed, making a further eight relief appearances. The youngster recorded one assist in the round 16 4-0 defeat of Hertha BSC.

Transfermarkt currently values the prospect at €1.3 million.
