In a recent segment on Youtube, Football London’s Alasdair Gold revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Newcastle United attacker Allan Saint-Maximin. It has been claimed that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the Magpies winger this summer.
Saint-Maximin’s Campaign Of Mixed Emotions At Tyneside
Saint-Maximin has endured a tough season at St. James’ Park as he has struggled to be clinical in front of the opposition goal. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on five occasions and grabbed five assists in 37 matches for the Magpies this season on all fronts.
Still, the French talent deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes and 4.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 76.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Saint-Maximin A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
Saint-Maximin can use his electric pace to get the better of his marker out on the wide areas. He excels at getting a few shots in on-target and can complete a handful of dangerous dribbles in the attacking end of the field. Saint-Maximin is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate on the right or function as a centre-forward if needed.
At 25, the French sensation will only get better with each season. However, he has to find a way to improve his decision-making in front of the opponent’s goal.
We can expect Saint-Maximin to add a lot of pace to Tottenham boss Antonio Conte‘s attack. He will increase competition for places within Spurs‘ match-day squad and could even help the North London outfit compete for a major trophy or two in the coming seasons.
However, only time will tell whether Saint-Maximin has what it takes to compete with Heung-min Son and Harry Kane for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting the Frenchman which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to pursue when the transfer window reopens later this month.
