On Thursday, both Anthony Modeste and Borussia Dortmund confirmed that the striker had undergone an operation on his groin. Modeste will go straight into rehabilitation following the operation.
The injury had been causing discomfort to Modeste over the past couple of weeks, not only in training but during games as well. The 34-year-old posted on Instagram: “Now it’s straight to rehab so that I can be fit and full of energy on the pitch again in the New Year.”
Modeste has struggled since his move from 1. FC Köln at the beginning of the season. After originally being the starting striker for Dortmund, Modeste slowly lost his place to Youssoufa Moukoko (17).
Signed as a replacement for Sébastien Haller, in Modeste’s 13 games for BVB in the Bundesliga, the Frenchman has only scored twice and assisted once, with one of the goals and the assist coming in Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in October.
During the break for the World Cup, Dortmund will travel to Asia where they will play three games in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
