Bayern board member for sport, Hasan Salihamidzic said goalkeeper Alexander Nübel won’t return to the record champions after the season. Nübel is playing well on loan at Monaco, but there won’t be any space in the squad for him next season.
Speaking with Sky, board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic was asked whether Alexander Nübel will return to Bayern when his loan at Monaco ends next year: “This will not happen in 2023. After that you have to see.”
Adding, “I don’t need to bring a competitor for Manuel Neuer. He’s our captain. He doesn’t need anyone to push him. We spoke to Alex about how he wants things to continue and at some point we have to make decisions. But we’re not there yet.”
This means the 26-year-old could sign a new loan deal with Monaco or join another club temporarily. Bayern still see Nübel as the future at the position and currently don’t want to sell him permanently, according to ‘kicker.’
The club are waiting to see whether Neuer plays beyond his expiring contract in 2024 and are likely to extend backup keeper Sven Ulreich’s deal next year. This means there is simply no room for a player of Nübel’s caliber.
Nübel’s contract expires in 2025.
