Following reports stating that Frankfurt were joining Gladbach and Leverkusen for a push at Inter left-back Robin Gosens in the winter, Sporting Director Markus Krösche stated, “This is basically an interesting player, but financially such a transfer is not feasible for us.”
Since Filip Kostic’s long-awaited summer move to Juventus, Oliver Glasner has played around with different options on the left. However, Christopher Lenz is injured again and loanee Luca Pellegrini hasn’t impressed thus far.

Ansgar Knauff was brought on for Pellegrini at halftime against Augsburg on Matchday 13 and performed well.

Krösche said, “Ansgar received this role very well. He likes it on the left side because he can pull inwards and close from there with his strong right foot. That suits him very well. He also did it very well in Augsburg.”

A solution will still be needed by the end of the season with both Pellegrini’s and Knauff’s loan deals expiring.
