After guiding Leverkusen to a 4-0 victory over Schalke 04 in his first game in charge as head coach, Xabi Alonso has lost two games a row, most recently falling to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Despite Leverkusen’s poor form as of late, Nadiem Amiri is confident that Alonso will achieve results with Leverkusen and lead the crisis-hit 16th-placed club out of the relegation zone.
“Alonso reached the maximum as an active player, and you notice his experience. When he comes into the room, you feel the energy he radiates. He gives us a sense of calm and has brutal confidence. We haven’t been able to repay him yet, but I think we’re in a process that will be successful,” Amiri told At Broski – Die Sport Show.
After struggling to find playing time under now former Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane, Amiri is pleased to receive a fresh start under Alonso.
“It was a difficult phase for me. That makes me even happier that the coaching change came,” he admitted.
