‘I’m not going to do that after a 1-0 loss’ – Niclas Füllkrug avoids question on German national team

Werder Bremen will have been disappointed at not being able to extend their unbeaten streak to eight games following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against VfB Stuttgart. Niclas Füllkrug and Co. mustered up 23 shots, generating an xGoals value of 1.40, but failed to score in the Bundesliga for the first time this season.

On top for large parts of the game, Füllkrug told ZDF: “I had the feeling that if we’d scored that one goal, we could even win the game.” With nine goals this season, the 33-year-old is the league’s top scorer which has seen him return to the German national team after over a year away. But when questioned about his return, Bremen’s No.10 was unwilling to comment.

“I’m not going to do that after a 1-0 loss,” he explained. “Please, a little respect. We just lost a game. That’s not even on my mine right now.” He further dismissed the reporter’s questioned about the national team, adding: “I’m not thinking about that right now, and it doesn’t interest me at the moment.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but we just lost 1-0 against Stuttgart, even though we played well. I’m certainly not thinking about what’s next week, it doesn’t interest me right now.”
