17-year-old Wael Mohya was a surprise inclusion in Jürgen Klopp’s Germany squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Serbia and the Netherlands, which was announced on Thursday.
Mohya has now opened up about the excitement and pride he and his parents felt upon hearing the news.
“I only found out about the call-up on Tuesday evening,” Mohya said, via iMiaSanMia.
“I was actually at the gym when I got the call, so I took out my AirPods and answered. Of course, I was absolutely delighted. I then told my parents about it over dinner, and they were obviously very happy too – they even started crying.
“It means a lot to me. I think every player dreams of being called up to the national team one day. To have made it this far is simply amazing, and it makes me very proud,” he added.
