Borussia Dortmund are working on tying Waldemar Anton down to a new contract, but negotiations have yet to progress as English clubs circle.
The Black and Yellows have reportedly taken the first step towards extending Anton’s deal beyond 2028 by submitting an initial proposal.
However, the offer has not met the defender’s demands, with his current annual salary standing at around €5.5 million, according to Bild’s Dortmund Insider podcast.
The value of Dortmund’s initial offer remains unclear, but Anton is seeking a pay rise that reflects his importance to the team. Fellow centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck reportedly earns up to €14 million annually.
English clubs could pose a threat to Dortmund’s hopes of keeping Anton, with Manchester United having shown interest in the German international.
“Of course, he also has offers from England, where he could move to the Premier League and probably earn considerably more,” Borussia Dortmund reporter Jörg Weiler said on the podcast.
Anton, 30, joined Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart for a reported 22.5 million fee in the summer of 2024.
