Barcelona add yet another name to defender watchlist

La Liga giants Barcelona have added a new name to their growing list of targets to reinforce the heart of the club’s backline this January.

This comes amid the understanding that Deco and co. have set their sights on a potential deal for Ajax talent Youri Baas.

Baas, for his part, is a 23-year-old defender, who chiefly lines out in a central role, but is also more than capable of slotting in at left-back when required.

The Dutchman has long been hailed for his talents on and off the ball alike, considered something of a leader in Ajax’s backline despite his tender years.

And such gifts, it would appear, have proven enough to pique the attention of one of European football’s leading clubs. As per a report from Diario Sport, amid their ongoing search for fresh blood at the back with a view to the 2nd half of the campaign:

‘Baas is very well evaluated by Barça, who value the fact that he can act as a left-back. He is a player out of the Ajax factory, and as such, he has a Barça profile and a good physique.’

Whether the Blaugrana’s interest is formalised by way of a winter offer for Baas remains to be seen, but his name is certainly one to keep an eye on in Catalunya’s capital.
