Barcelona confirm Raphinha contract extension until 2030

Barcelona have confirmed that captain Raphinha has signed a new contract until June 2030, extending his stay at Camp Nou by another two years.

The Brazil international had been under contract until 2028, but the Spanish champions have moved to secure his long-term future following his impressive performances.

Barcelona announced the agreement on Thursday, just two days after Raphinha scored twice in their 3-0 Champions League victory over Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2026-27 campaign, scoring 19 goals and providing two assists across all competitions.

His performances have been particularly impressive since being deployed more regularly as a centre-forward under head coach Hansi Flick.

Raphinha has adapted effectively to the central attacking role, maintaining his goalscoring threat while contributing to Barcelona’s overall attacking play.

The club’s sporting director Deco had already indicated in September that discussions over an extension were progressing positively.

Those negotiations have now resulted in an agreement that will keep the Brazilian at Barcelona until June 30, 2030.

Barcelona celebrated the announcement on social media, highlighting the importance of retaining their captain.

“A true statement of intent. Our beloved captain will continue to lead the project until 2030,” the club posted.

Raphinha joined Barcelona from Leeds United in July 2022 for a fee worth approximately £55 million, having previously represented Rennes and Sporting CP.

The Brazilian initially established himself as a right winger but has since demonstrated his versatility across several attacking positions.

He has become one of Barcelona’s most influential players, contributing 94 goals and 62 assists in 190 appearances since his arrival.

His performances have helped the Catalan giants secure seven major trophies, including three La Liga titles.

Raphinha’s importance has also grown considerably following his appointment as club captain at the beginning of the current campaign.

The forward inherited the armband from Marc-Andre ter Stegen, reflecting his increasing influence within the dressing room.

His leadership has coincided with another productive season for Barcelona, who remain determined to compete for domestic and European honours.

The Brazilian was particularly influential against Aston Villa on Tuesday, scoring twice after Lamine Yamal had opened the scoring at Camp Nou.

His brace helped Barcelona return to winning ways in the Champions League following defeat in their previous European fixture.

Securing Raphinha’s future represents another important decision for Barcelona as they seek to maintain stability within their attacking department.

The new agreement will keep him at the club until shortly before his 34th birthday, potentially allowing him to spend eight seasons in Catalonia.
