Monaco manager Filipe Luís: ‘There are some behaviours that I need to correct.’

Filipe Luís’ honeymoon period as manager of AS Monaco is over. The Principality club won their first nine games in all competitions under the new manager, but have struggled in the league in recent weeks. Despite continued good form in the UEFA Conference League, Les Monégasques are winless in their last four in Ligue 1 (two draws, two losses) and have slipped from first in the table to seventh.

Monaco’s defeat to Paris FC on Sunday (3-1) did not please the Brazilian, who admitted that his plan “did not work”. Speaking ahead of Thursday night’s match against Nordsjaelland, Luís identified some of the issues:

‘We have to calm down a little bit’ – Monaco manager Luís

“There are some behaviours that I need to correct. Which ones? The players know. Some behaviours they know, some behaviours, I mean, especially off the ball. Off the ball, some behaviours that we didn’t protect much; we were very exposed. And as I said, I always say, it’s not a good idea, a bad idea. It’s just that my idea of defending is a little bit different in this game. We go full (in the press), and they have a lot of quality to break the press, and they had a fantastic day. And these kind of behaviours that I want to try to correct. And we always say, it’s also a very young team, and these things happen.

“I could see that the players were very motivated against Paris FC. The attitude was even higher. And I think sometimes there’s too much attitude. Even to press, we go full when we didn’t want to. We have to calm down a little bit. So that’s a thing we need to correct.“
