Roma set for three major absentees v Manchester United, confirms Gian Piero Gasperini

Serie A side Roma take on Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow in what will be a huge game for either side.

Michael Carrick’s side come into the tie with just two wins in all competitions. One came against Ipswich Town and the other came against Sabah in the Champions League during their first game of the campaign.

Roma are at the other end of the spectrum and find themselves in a title race, having thrashed Udinese 5-2 at the weekend.

Going into the game, Roma had major doubts about the fitness of Manu Kone, Mile Svilar and Paulo Dybala, as all three have been out of action for two weeks now. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has now revealed that the trio will be missing against Manchester United too.

He said – via DirettaCalciomercato: “We’re judging by the situation. We’ll play this match first, then return to Rome on Wednesday and evaluate all three to see if they’re fit enough to play against Sassuolo or after the break.”

Gasperini also warned that despite Manchester United’s struggles, they remain a force to be reckoned with.

“Manchester United are having a tough time getting results in the league, but we can’t let that distract us. They’re a strong team, they have some truly talented players, and it’s a tense and challenging environment. We’re preparing as if we were facing the best Manchester United.”

Absences important but not decisive

Dybala, Kone and Svilar are some of Roma’s best players and this is seen when they play. But Roma have done well enough without them as their focus is largely on the system than the individuals. So even if their impact is clear, they may not face too many problems at Old Trafford.
