Barcelona monitoring Chelsea winger Estevao as concerns grow over limited playing time

Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Chelsea winger Estevao, according to Sport.

The 19-year-old arrived in England with considerable expectations after establishing himself as one of South America’s most exciting attacking prospects.

However, his lack of opportunities this season has raised questions about his immediate future.

Barcelona have not lost sight of Estevao and are monitoring his situation at Chelsea. Sporting director Deco appreciates the winger’s talent.

Estevao had featured for just 172 minutes across eight Premier League and League Cup appearances this season going into the weekend, without scoring or registering an assist.

The youngster was frustrated during Chelsea’s midweek League Cup elimination against Liverpool on penalties.

Estevao was left on the bench despite warming up, a decision that drew criticism from supporters.

The club was crying out for a difference-maker in the final third, and Alonso left the Brazilian international out.

Thankfully, the Spanish tactician has seen the error of his ways and started Estevao as they beat Manchester United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Estevao can establish himself at Chelsea

Estevao was arguably the best player in the first half and could have added two goals to the mesmerising display.

This performance should put him in the starting XI for the foreseeable future and quell rumours that he’ll leave in January or next summer for game time.

If he had entertained any thoughts about leaving Chelsea, Barcelona might be the wrong destination.

Barca have Lamine Yamal for their right wing, and he’ll likely take the starting berth for years to come, making their pursuit of Estevao quite curious.

The Catalan giants also have Roony Bardghji waiting in the wings, and Estevao would struggle to get a look-in.
