Liverpool Now Eyeing €120m Alex Scott Upgrade Felix Nmecha

Liverpool could make a central midfield signing in 2027 as they weigh up making moves for their targets, with Sky Sports journalist Florian Pletteberg issuing the latest on the situation.

GIVEMESPORT sources already revealed that Liverpool are looking at three midfield players ahead of next year, in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara and AS Roma’s Manu Kone.

Reds boss Andoni Iraola knows the former well, having worked with him during the duo’s time together at the Vitality Stadium, with the duo known to have a close relationship.

The Merseysiders will face strong competition from Chelsea for the England international’s signature though, following a possible change of stance by Bournemouth. The Blues are now confident of winning the race for his signature.

Previously, it had been expected that the south coast outfit had ruled out a January transfer window exit for the 23-year-old unless a club was willing to pay more than £100m, but GMS understands that Bournemouth’s stance may have softened after the recent injury suffered by the midfielder, although they may still need to be in a comfortable position in the Premier League table to consider a sale.

GMS also revealed that Liverpool had informed Camara on deadline day that he was high on their shortlist for 2027 if the Senegal international’s move to Chelsea fell through, which it did.

Liverpool’s current central midfield options:

  • Alexis Mac Allister
  • Ryan Gravenberch
  • Dominik Szoboszlai
  • Trey Nyoni
  • James McConnell

Meanwhile, Kone was one of France’s standout performers at the 2026 World Cup as they ended up losing to England in the third-place playoff, and he has established himself as one of the best in his position in Serie A.

According to Plettenberg, posting on X, Liverpool chiefs are also big fans of Borussia Dortmund Felix Nmecha, although he isn’t considered a priority target as things stand.

Felix Nmecha has been an impressive performer for Borussia Dortmund for a few seasons now, but he announced himself on the world stage with some really strong performances for Germany at the 2026 World Cup.

The 26-year-old scored once and assisted twice in his nation’s opening two group games, before they were eventually knocked out by Paraguay in the round of 32.

Still, his performances didn’t go unnoticed by many English pundits, including Gary Neville and Ian Wright.

After watching Nmecha live, Neville said: “The more he plays like he did the other night, the more expensive he’ll get.

He looked outstanding the other night. It looked like he had absolutely everything.

Ian Wright added: “When you look at him, he breaks lines, he gets into the box, he’s got Kimmich to come in and fill in for him,” Wright said.

“He can play as a No.8 or No.10, we can see he can finish, you can see why teams are interested in him. He’s got everything.”

They aren’t wrong either, because Nmecha has all the attributes of a player who can play in every position in midfield.

While he shone as a No.8 or No.10 in front of a global audience at the World Cup, former Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin described him as a ‘dream’ because of his ability to play as a defensive midfielder, as well as being more advanced.

Former Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl described him as being ‘physically strong’ and ‘fast’, as well as being technically good, and those are the traits that could make him the perfect fit for the Premier League.

The Bundesliga giants were said to want €120m (£100m) for him in the summer, which is clearly a big price if Dortmund haven’t dropped their asking price since then.

However, Iraola has already made it clear he likes versatile players and Nmecha would be able to feature all across his midfield, and would offer more than Scott does as a result.

Scott is clearly a quality player, as he has shown for Bournemouth and especially for England in their 7-0 thrashing of Croatia earlier this month.

But Nmecha looks a class above, and he would fit Iraola’s needs, even if club chiefs don’t appear completely sold on making a move for the 26-year-old.
