Hamburger SV has reportedly set out it’s stall to strengthen its squad in the upcoming transfer windows and is prepared to spend heavily.

In an episode of the ‘Football Finance’ podcast, HSV board member Eric Huwer said: “We don’t want to hold onto the money.

“We want to invest it. That’s what we’ve done in the transfer window now. Many were surprised by that – we, of course, were a little less so.”

The Hanseatic club also intends to maintain its financial risk in transfers and bid to bring the best quality the can to boost the team:

“That will continue to be our approach. If we are convinced by players who will improve us and excite the fans here, then: Let’s go.”

In the last transfer window, HSV spent around €31million on new players – with Fábio Vieira and Zakaria El Ouahdi making up half of that sum.

This is offset by approximately €10million in transfer revenue, highlighting HSV’s willingness to spend without taking in excessive amounts.
