Jay-Z has reportedly picked the artist who will perform the Super Bowl half-time show.
The 2026 NFL season is in Week 7 — with a Supercomputer predicting the final standings after last weekend’s games, as teams aim to reach the Super Bowl, which takes place on February 14, 2027.
The SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, will host Super Bowl LXI.
Bad Bunny performed at this year’s Super Bowl and delivered a powerful set, with many praising it as a vibrant and culturally rich spectacle, given it was performed entirely in Spanish.
All eyes are on next year’s Super Bowl and who will perform it.
Jay-Z Picks Artist for Super Bowl LXI Half-Time Show
Jay-Z has been in charge of picking an artist for the Super Bowl half-time show ever since his company, Roc Nation, signed a deal with the NFL in 2019, giving him the final say on who performs.
The Brooklyn icon and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell extended their deal in 2024 for another five years, with the partnership tasked with enhancing the league’s live game experiences and leading social justice initiatives.
And he has picked, wait for it… none other than himself.
That’s according to Puck News, who claim the pick was more compelling than Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, who were both considered.
Jay-Z, who has never performed at the Super Bowl, has yet to address the report, but he has two sold-out shows on Friday and Saturday at SoFi Stadium, which will stage Super Bowl LXI, so an official announcement could come this week.
Performing at Super Bowl LXI appears to be the perfect timing considering he has been celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint.
Jay-Z Previously Refused to Perform Super Bowl Half-Time Show
Jay-Z, who founded Roc Nation in 2009, is one of the most influential figures in hip-hop history, with a career spanning music, business, and sports entertainment. With albums like the aforementioned Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, he helped shape modern rap.
Given his body of work in the music industry, he was always going to perform at the Super Bowl at some stage in his legendary career.
But the 56-year-old hasn’t always been keen on performing at the Super Bowl and reportedly declined an offer because he did not want conditions placed on his performance, choosing artistic freedom over one of the world’s biggest stages.
He said: “That is not how you go about it, telling someone that they’re going to do the half-time show contingent on who they bring. I said, ‘Forget it’. It was a principle thing.”
