It remains unclear whether Vincent Kompany will be in the dugout for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Arsenal, Bayern Munich assistant Aaron Danks confirmed on Tuesday. The availability of captain Manuel Neuer and midfielder Joshua Kimmich is also uncertain.

After missing Bayern Munich’s training session on Tuesday due to a viral infection affecting his hip, it remains unclear whether Vincent Kompany will be in the dugout for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Arsenal.
Filling in for Kompany at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Bayern assistant Aaron Danks provided an update on the Belgian coach’s condition.
“Vincent has a viral infection. It’s important that he gets some rest. We’re monitoring the situation constantly and will see how he’s doing tomorrow. We’re in constant contact. He’s giving us his input; as for whether he’ll be able to be at the Allianz Arena tomorrow, we’ll see tomorrow,” Danks said.
Asked how it feels for Danks to take charge in Kompany’s absence, the 43-year-old replied:
“Not much changes for me. We’re a strong coaching team; we have our processes in place. We need to keep the players’ energy levels high so they’re ready for tomorrow.”
Another question mark ahead of Wednesday’s game is Joshua Kimmich, who missed training on Tuesday for personal reasons.
German media reported earlier on Tuesday that the 31-year-old was still expected to feature on Wednesday, but Danks left the question of his availability open.
“Josh was absent today for personal reasons. I’m not sure what that will mean for tomorrow,” he said.
Danks also provided an update on Manuel Neuer, who could return to the starting XI after missing the last two games with a foot injury.
“We haven’t made a decision yet. Manu’s been back on the pitch for two days, which is brilliant. We’ll decide together with the coaching staff and Vincent. But it’s great to have Manu back,” Danks said.
Should Neuer not be deemed fit enough to start, Jonas Urbig will be ready to deputise for the 40-year-old once again.
