One MMA fighter has now become a free agent after being dropped from the UFC roster despite holding an impressive record.
Later this month, the much-anticipated UFC 333 will take place inside the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The event will be headlined by a bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev, who are fighting for the UFC featherweight championship.
The co-main event will also feature a UFC bantamweight championship fight between two-time reigning champion Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili.
Meanwhile, the likes of Lone’er Kavanagh, Ramazan Temirov, Alexander Volkov, and Rizvan Kuniev will also feature on the main card.
Ahead of UFC 333, it has been reported by MMA Fighting that one fighter who has been in the UFC since 2023 has been dropped from the roster, despite the fact he’s unbeaten in 23 professional fights, including seven in the Octagon.
Unbeaten MMA Fighter Dropped from the UFC Roster
It has been revealed that undefeated bantamweight fighter Farid Basharat is now a free agent after being dropped from the UFC roster.
The 29-year-old, born in Paktia Province, Afghanistan, last fought back in July on the UFC 329 card, and he got the better of John Garza via unanimous decision.
Despite having a record of 16-0 in MMA and 7-0 in the UFC, Basharat was not offered a new deal when his most recent contract expired, meaning he is now able to sign with any other fighting promotion.
One outcome could be that he follows in the footsteps of his brother, Javid, who was also released from the UFC after a win and later signed for the PFL, which is set to merge with MVP MMA ahead of 2027.
Basharat’s road to the UFC started back in 2018 when he made his debut against Camilo Petkoff at FightStar Championship 14, which later earned him an invite to Dana White’s Contender Series Season 6, where he beat Allan Begosso to secure a UFC contract.
He then made his UFC debut in March 2023, getting the better of Da’Mon Blackshear via unanimous decision at UFC 285, which was held in Las Vegas.
Since then, Basharat has beaten the likes of Kleydson Rodrigues, Taylor Lapilus, Victor Hugo, Chris Gutierrez, Jean Matsumoto, and Garza in the UFC.
However, despite having an impressive record, it can be speculated that the fact he won six of his seven UFC bouts via decision may have played a part in him being dropped, with the promotion known to prefer fighters who win via knockout.
