Nicolai Remberg is set to spend several months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury.

Hamburger SV confirmed on Sunday that an MRI scan has revealed a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the captain’s right knee, sustained during Saturday’s 3-2 Bundesliga win over TSG Hoffenheim.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder will now undergo surgery before beginning a lengthy rehabilitation process.

“It’s a bitter moment for him personally and for us as a team, because he is exactly the kind of player who embodies what the new HSV is supposed to stand for,” head coach Merlin Polzin said following the injury.

Remberg has made 40 competitive appearances for HSV since joining the club from Holstein Kiel ahead of the 2025/26 season.
