Rangers Eyeing Move to Sign Huddersfield Star Cameron Ashia for Danny Rohl

Rangers are in the midst of a huge title race in the Scottish Premiership, but the club are already making plans to strengthen their squad this summer.

Danny Rohl has come into Ibrox and done a sensational job since replacing Russell Martin, leading the Light Blues to sit four points behind league leaders Hearts ahead of a huge Old Firm derby clash with Celtic this weekend.

Winning the league will undoubtedly make the team a more appealing destination for new players, but the club have turned their attentions to someone who could make the move for free and would be making a step up regardless.

Rangers Want to Sign Ashia

Cameron Ashia

Huddersfield star Cameron Ashia has had an excellent season so far this season as a 19-year-old, making 12 appearances in all competitions and scoring three times.

The young midfielder is out of contract this summer though, and with no agreement on the cards to sign an extension, Rangers are understood to be keen on taking him to Ibrox to improve their squad for next season, according to Football Insider

“Yeah, again, he’s a player that I think a lot of clubs will probably be looking at due to his contract situation,” journalist Pete O’Rourke said.

“He’s out of contract at Huddersfield in the summer as well, so he could be lured away for minimal compensation if he was to make that move up to Scotland.

“Ashia is obviously a young player and is highly regarded at Huddersfield, but maybe has not made as many starts as he would have hoped this season.

“But there is a real potential there and Rangers will be doing their homework on a number of players ahead of this summer. If they can sign a top young player who’s 19 right now for free in the summer, it’ll be real smart piece of business by Rangers.

“Rangers have had success previously signing players from the EFL. So I’m sure he’s one of a number of players that is on their list for the summer window.”

What Would Ashia Bring to Rangers?

Danny Rohl

Ashia, who is the nephew of Nottingham Forest star Callum Hudson-Odoi, has been compared to Man City wing sensation Jeremy Doku for his incredible speed, and his eye for goal has been impressive in his short career so far too.

GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT what Ashia would bring to Rangers if he joined the club, and this was its response:

  • Youth and potential for development
  • Pace and agility in attack
  • Creative spark and dribbling ability
  • Goal involvement threat from midfield/forward positions
