Tottenham Looking for New Midfielder After Bentancur Injury

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring the signing of a new midfielder following Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Uruguay international is set to undergo surgery after sustaining a hamstring injury in Spurs’ 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth last week and is expected to be sidelined for three months.

As a result, Tottenham are expected to look at signing a new midfielder this month, while Santos left-back Souza is anticipated to become their first signing of the winter transfer window.

Spurs have an agreement in place for the Brazilian defender’s arrival in a deal worth £15m, subject to a successful medical.

Romano, writing on X, revealed that Tottenham are likely to explore the midfield market following Bentancur’s injury blow.

Bentancur has been a key player for Thomas Frank this season, starting 17 of Spurs’ 21 league games and registering two goal contributions.

The Uruguay international was replaced by Archie Gray late on at Bournemouth, with the 19-year-old deputising for him again in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Spurs have dealt with a host of injury concerns this season, with Dejan Kulusevski remaining sidelined since April and James Maddison likely to miss the entire campaign with an ACL injury.

The North London club have also been without Lucas Bergvall, Mohammed Kudus and Destiny Udogie in recent games, while Richarlison was forced off against Villa with a hamstring issue.
