Bruno Fernandes’ teammates fear he will leave Manchester United in the summer.
United players reportedly believe Fernandes is tired of all the turmoil and may seek a fresh start elsewhere.
The club sacked Ruben Amorim as manager, despite spending over £200 million on five summer signings to suit his style of play.
United dismissed him after he hit out at the club’s hierarchy following the 1-1 draw at Leeds United.
Darren Fletcher will lead the team for Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Brighton & Hove Albion, but a new caretaker manager is expected to be appointed for the Manchester derby on January 17.
Fernandes revealed in November that United’s chiefs were willing to sell him when Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal submitted a £100m offer.
The attacking midfielder said Amorim convinced him to stay at Old Trafford.
With the Portuguese boss no longer in charge, there are doubts over Fernandes’ future in Manchester.
The 31-year-old has a contract with United until 2027, with the club having an option to extend it by another year.
Fernandes has bagged 103 goals and 94 assists in 309 appearances across all competitions, helping United win the FA Cup and League Cup.
The Portugal international has started 18 Premier League matches this term, with 13 direct goal contributions to his name.
But United may consider cashing in on him in the summer to boost their transfer budget.
