Aston Villa have joined Manchester United in the transfer race for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.
According to Alex Crook, the Midlands club are looking to sign Gallagher on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Manager Unai Emery has been keen to sign Gallagher since he was at Chelsea.
United have shown an interest in the England international, but it remains to be seen if they would make a move in the ongoing transfer window.
There is plenty of uncertainty at Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim’s recent dismissal as head coach.
Villa want to bolster their ranks as they look to secure Champions League football and compete on multiple fronts.
The Lions sit third in the Premier League standings, with six points behind leaders Arsenal.
They are also hot favourites to win the Europa League and FA Cup this campaign.
Gallagher could be an excellent acquisition for Villa.
The 25-year-old is highly rated for his versatility, as he can operate as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder.
He also has a knack for making goal contributions, while his work rate and pressing ability are among his main strengths.
Gallagher joined Atletico from Chelsea in the summer of 2024 for a fee around £34 million.

He has been a key member of Diego Simeone’s first-team, making 77 appearances across all competitions and scoring seven goals.
Gallagher is said to be happy in Spain but seeks a return to the Premier League to earn a place in England’s World Cup squad.
