Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth as their first addition of the winter transfer window.
The 26-year-old joins on a five-and-a-half-year contract running until 2031, adding further depth to Pep Guardiola’s attack for the Premier League title run-in.
City will pay an initial £62.5million for Semenyo, marking the biggest sale in Bournemouth’s history.
Semenyo arrives after an impressive spell on the south coast, where his explosive performances established him as one of the standout forwards outside the traditional “big six”.
He has reached double figures for goals in the Premier League this season and signed off for Bournemouth in style, scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Tottenham in his final appearance for the Cherries.
Capable of operating in multiple positions up front, the Ghana international brings pace, power and direct running, traits that City believe will complement their existing wide options.
“I am so proud to have joined Manchester City,” Semenyo said on the completion of his move.
“I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant team in the Premier League as well as achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.”
Semenyo will hope to inspire his new employers to Premier League glory as they aim to make up a six-point gap on current leaders Arsenal.
Meanwhile, more transfer activity is expected at the Etihad Stadium given Man City’s injury woes at the back.
They have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace’s skipper Marc Guehi.
