Two such players unavailable through fitness complaints come in the form of Dani Carvajal and Federico Valverde.
The Spaniard and Uruguayan also happen to be first and second in the captaincy pecking order in Xabi Alonso’s squad.
As a result, the third in line has been forced to step up.
