Eintracht Frankfurt left it late to salvage a point at home against VfL Wolfsburg. Dino Toppmöller’s side were nowhere near their usual standard in the final third, with Jonathan Burkardt’s absence making a huge difference.
“We wanted to show a reaction to Wednesday’s game,” said Dino Toppmöller, referring to their Champions League defeat. “In the first few minutes, we did that neatly. We had a lot of action towards Wolfsburg’s box. However, we lacked the last punch to profit from it.
“After the break, we remained stable and showed good morale. Wolfsburg defended passionately, and it was only enough to draw 1-1 in the end. Our attitude was really good as we ran much more than the opponent. We shouldn’t forget that we’re missing two players who have scored many goals in Jonny (Burkardt) and Can (Uzun).”
Frankfurt will face RB Leipzig away from home on matchday 13. Had they won today, Frankfurt would’ve had the chance to leapfrog the second-placed team with the Topspiel duel.
