Bayern Munich are hopeful that club captain Manuel Neuer will be available for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Freiburg.
The 39-year-old goalkeeper has been dealing with an illness this week but could still return in time for the match.
“We’ll have to see about Manuel Neuer. He had a bit of a cold and didn’t train. Hopefully he’ll be involved today,” Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said on Friday morning, delivering an injury update at a press conference.
Serge Gnabry, however, is unlikely to feature after picking up a knock while on international duty with Germany.
“Serge returned from international duty and still felt a twinge. We’ll see – he probably won’t be back for Freiburg. We’re hoping for the game after that,” Kompany added.
On the bright side for Bayern, Joshua Kimmich has fully recovered from the ankle injury he suffered during the international break, while Hiroki Ito is set to make his long-awaited return to the squad.
“It’s not all negative – there are also some good things,” Kompany stressed.
