Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United face competition from Premier League rivals Brighton to sign Olympiacos youngster Christos Mouzakitis ahead of the upcoming January transfer window, according to reports from The Sun.
The 18-year-old midfielder enjoyed an impressive breakout campaign with the Greek champions last season, in which he notched seven goal contributions in 36 outings from all competitions.
So far this term, the Olympiacos academy graduate has continued his rapid rise, by scoring twice in his eight outings so far in the Greek top flight and making four appearances in the Champions League.
As a result, holding midfielder Mouzakitis has attracted interest from Manchester United and the Seagulls as the mid-season transfer window approaches, but the top flight duo will have to shell out a significant fee for the starlet’s services.
Man Utd Given £40m Price Tag for Olympiacos starlet Mouzakitis
The Sun’s report adds that Mouzakitis, who won the UEFA Youth League with Olympiacos in 2024 after firing six goals in eight games, “will not be sold for less than £40m”, and that his price is likely to increase by the January window as a result of his stellar start to his second season at senior level.
However, with the young midfielder tied down at the Piraeus outfit until the summer of 2029, the Greek giants will be able to command a substantial fee for his signature, with Man Utd and Brighton reportedly “braced for an intense bidding war”.

On United’s part, Amorim is looking for recruits in his central midfield ranks, with Man Utd eyeing Elliot Anderson as their top transfer target for 2026, and have also held a long-standing interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.
However, Brighton are famed for their supreme talent-spotting, and could raid the Greek giants once again after signing Mouzakitis’ former Olympiacos teammate, 18-year-old forward Charalampos Kostoulas for a near £30m fee in June.
In addition to the two leading suitors, who are said to have been eyeing Mouzakitis for more than a year, Premier League sides including Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wolves are also interested in the rising talent.
Elsewhere in Europe, The Sun indicate that Mouzakitis has attracted interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.
Regarding AC, veteran midfielder Luka Modric is reportedly Mouzakitis’ “role model”, due to the former Real Madrid hero being ‘a smart player who is very important to the core of his team.’
If Man Utd beat Brighton to sign the youngster with a £40m-plus price tag, the Premier League giants would love to see the Greek starlet reach the levels of his six-time Champions League-winning idol.
