According to a Schalke 04 club statement, second choice goalkeeper Justin Heekeren is set for a spell on the sidelines.
The 24-year-old suffered a thigh injury in last week’s 1-0 friendly defeat against FC Twente – ironically, in the final moments of the match.
That means a staggering 13 players are already unavailable for Schalke’s next league match against Preußen Münster on Saturday.
Schalke recently announced that both Peter Remmert and Anton Donkor will also be unavailable “until further notice.”
However, coach Miron Muslic can likely hope for the return of Christopher Antwi-Adjei after his layoff with a muscle injury.
It is expected that top talent Luca Podlech could now move up to the professional squad to replace Heekeren for the meantime.
