It was officially announced on Monday that social media superstar turned professional boxer, Jake Paul, will fight the former heavyweight champion of the world, Anthony Joshua.
Paul was originally scheduled to face reigning WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis on Friday, the 14th of November, but 10 days prior, Most Valuable Promotions confirmed they had been cancelled the event following Davis being mentioned in a civil lawsuit. Although the situation certainly wasn’t ideal for Netflix or Paul and his team, they managed to secure an even bigger fight against ‘AJ.’
Although most fans thought that Joshua vs Paul would be nothing but talk, it is now official. And, although Joshua seemed one of the preferred options, it has been revealed by boxing journalist Mike Coppinger that Paul’s team actually reached out to two other boxing world champions to fight before the deal to fight ‘AJ’ was made.

The motivation behind Usyk’s decision may have emerged…
Although Jake Paul is now officially scheduled to face off against Anthony Joshua next month live on Netflix, the social media superstar’s team were in contact with two world level boxers before the contract was signed.
During a recent episode of Inside The Ring, Mike Coppinger revealed that both Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford, who is considered by many to be the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world at the moment, were contacted about stepping in to face ‘The Problem Child.’ Coppinger revealed that the contact with Crawford and Garcia came about after Netflix informed Paul they wanted him to face a “legitimate challenger.”
Coppinger, in the video you can see below, claimed Garcia was “unavailable” and Crawford simply “said no.”
Garcia vs Paul would’ve been a great fight and would’ve had an electric build-up as they’ve gone back and forth on social media plenty of times over the years, as would a fight against Crawford, but Paul and his team will not be disheartened, as they have secured an unbelievable fight anyway.
