Florian Plettenberg reports that Eintracht Frankfurt are positioning themselves to potentially acquire Werder Bremen centre-back Karim Coulibaly. The 18-year-old’s stock continues to rise after becoming a regular fixture in head coach Horst Steffen’s starting XI. Entering the November international break, Coulibaly has now started nine consecutive Bundesliga fixtures and played the full 90 minutes on seven occasions.
Coulibaly scored a dramatic late equalizer in a 3-3 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on matchday two. Since then, the youngster’s Bundesliga outfit have been left to lavish praise on their promising central defensive talent as his estimated market value has steadily increased. Coulibaly has been linked with top clubs in Italy and Portugal. EFL Championship side Burnley are rumored to be interested.
Eintracht are currently targeting both central defenders and defensive-minded midfielders as a means of shoring up what has been a porous defense. One fully expects there to be a race to secure Coulibaly’s services if the Germany U19 international can continue along his current form trajectory. Plettenberg notes that the SGE have shown “concrete interest“.
