The muscle injury that led to Eintracht Frankfurt attacking phenom Can Uzun being subbed off early in this weekend’s Bundesliga draw with Heidenheim will sideline the 19-year-old through the November international break. Eintracht confirmed that Uzun suffered a muscle tear on Sunday. The youngster remains thus remains out for Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Napoli and next Saturday’s league match against Mainz.
After an early season goal scoring spurt, Uzun’s fiery form has cooled somewhat over the last seven games. The four-times-capped Turkish international scored in his first six matches across all competitions. Since then, Uzun has only contributed an assist in Eintracht’s matchday eight victory over St. Pauli. Uzun has nevertheless started in all of the SGE’s nine league fixtures and will be sorely missed by head coach Dino Toppmöller.
The latest league draw leaves Eintracht in sixth place in the Bundesliga table. Pre-season hopes that the RheinMainAdler might potentially contend for the Bundesliga title are now officially dead. Toppmöller’s team must now focus on fending off other top-four rivals such as RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and VfB Stuttgart.
