PSG have been hit with another injury blow with club captain Marquinhos (31) set for an extended spell on the sidelines. The Champions League winners have announced that the Brazilian centre-back has sustained a left quadriceps injury that will keep him out of action for several weeks. Marquinhos will therefore miss out on PSG’s Champions League away clash against FC Barcelona on October 1. Illia Zabarnyi is expected to fill in for the 31-year-old centre-back.
Marquinhos is the latest PSG player to pick up a serious injury in the opening weeks of the current campaign, as the added strain of the FIFA Club World Cup seems to be painfully felt by Luis Enrique’s squad. PSG only had a week of pre-season, between the Club World Cup defeat against Chelsea and the UEFA Super Cup win against Tottenham.
Ousmane Dembélé, João Neves and Désiré Doué are also sidelined, which explains why they were allowed to attend Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris. PSG add that the three players continue their rehabilitation process. None of them will feature against Auxerre on Saturday.
