Juventus plot January move for Al-Hilal star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to bolster the midfield

Juventus are keen on signing Al-Hilal midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the January transfer window (h/t Tuttosport).

The Bianconeri failed to bolster the midfield this summer. They were linked with Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand, but none of the moves materialised.

Manager Igor Tudor believes it will be challenging to compete for silverware without adequate midfield depth. Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli each boast a line-up of top-quality midfielders.

Khephren Thuram and Manuel Locatelli are the only consistent performers for the Old Lady, as Teun Koopmeiners and Weston McKennie haven’t been up to the mark.

Vasilije Adzic showed promise with his sensational last-minute winner against Inter, but pinning their hopes entirely on the 19-year-old could hinder his progress.

Juve want to take advantage of the upcoming winter transfer window and view Milinkovic-Savic as an option who can make an instant impact.

The Serbian international has been an integral part of Al-Hilal since his move from Lazio in 2023, winning the Saudi Pro League (SPL) in 2023/24, a King’s Cup and two Saudi Super Cups.

He is known for his all-round abilities and can adapt to different types of formations. The 30-year-old’s contract expires in June 2026, which has put some of the Italian giants on high alert.

However, the Blue Waves are looking to extend his contract. With the presence of manager Simone Inzaghi, who played a pivotal role in his development at Lazio, it will be challenging for Juve to sign him.

Milinkovic-Savic’s wages will be another major obstacle for the Old Lady as he is among the highest-paid players in the SPL.

Juventus are second in Serie A this season, two points behind Napoli. They drew against Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League opener and will face Villarreal next week.
