Even though former BMG sporting director Max Eberl’s move to Leipzig hasn’t been finalized yet, some club supporters will apparently wish to call attention to his betrayal as well.
Eberl’s imminent return to the world of professional football some eight months after his declaration that he “needed time to look after Max Eberl the person” has struck a nerve with the the FPMG. The letter appearing on the website accuses Eberl of feigning personal illness and burn-out.
“As a media professional, you knew that your appearance would broadcast certain things to the footballing world,” the letter reads, “While you were fishing for a move to RB Leipzig. This was simply shameful and a slap in the face to anyone actually affected by burnout.”
Naturally, German media sources confronted the “Fan Projekt” over the publishing of the letter. There is no evidence to suggest that Eberl was thinking about taking another job at the time. Furthermore, though the letter states that Eberl never mentioned that he was ill or burnt-out, his choice of words remained fairly clear.
In response to media queries, the fan group noted that its publication was warranted as a means of expressing the pain BMG supporters felt at having their long-time executive take up another job so soon. The FPMG stated that “something that needed to be said was said”.
The “Fan Projekt” also distanced itself from claims in the letter that Eberl was in any way faking his mental state or emotions, emphasizing instead that the press conference counted as “inappropriate staging”.
