Augsburg are close to reaching an agreement with Rennes to sign Switzerland international Fabian Rieder (23) as per Ouest-France. The 23-year-old joined Rennes from formative BSC Young Boys two years ago in a €15m move. Rieder put pen to paper over a four-year deal with Les Rouge et Noir. The Swiss had a timid start to his Rennes career, and his first season in Brittany was marred by a foot fracture.
Last year, Rieder was allowed to spend the season on loan at VfB Stuttgart. The Swiss got his promising career back on track with Die Schwaben with whom he won the 2025 DFB-Pokal. The Swiss returned to Rennes earlier in the summer, but he was adamant his heart was set on a move away from Habib Beye’s Ligue 1 side.
Ouest-France reports that Rieder will eventually return to the Bundesliga as Augsburg reached an agreement ranging from €8m to €10m with Rennes for the permanent signing of the Switzerland international midfielder.
