The board at La Liga champions Barcelona have earmarked the player whom they feel would be the perfect addition to the captaincy group in Hansi Flick’s squad this summer.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who highlight Iñigo Martínez as the player in question.
Barca’s captain contingent is expected to undergo a shake-up over the months ahead. As much comes with current first-choice skipper Marc-André ter Stegen being pushed towards the exit door.
Even in the case of Ter Stegen staying put for next season, the German is expected to be stripped of his armband.
And as alluded to above, in the eyes of those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou, an ‘ideal candidate’ already exists in Hansi Flick’s squad, to take up a role as one of the Blaugrana’s five captains in 2025/26.
As per a report from MD:
‘The board consider Iñigo Martínez an ideal candidate to join the captain group due to his experience, his influence in the dressing room, and his good connection with Flick.’
