The Athletic reports that Chelsea have agreed to terms with Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Gittens on a seven-year-contract. Whether or not the England U21 international is headed to London this summer nevertheless isn’t clear. Sky Germany claims Chelsea and the Bundesliga club remain far apart on the transfer fee.
Dortmund presently stick firm to a €50m asking-price. The Blues have submitted an initial offer of €35m. Gittens maintains a current estimated market value in line with BVB’s requested fee. Germany’s Schwarzgelben were able to fend off previous interest from Arsenal by refusing to budge on the €50m demand.
Amid conflicting reports over whether or not the winger actually wished to leave Dortmund or not, Gittens did receive two starts in his club’s final four Bundesliga fixtures this season. The 20-year-old scored an impressive 12 goals and added four assists in 48 appearances across all competitions this year.
Gittens’ current BVB contract runs through 2028.
