Former Serie A title winner Stefano Pioli is currently in pole position to replace Luciano Spalletti as the next Italy manager.
The ex-Napoli boss saw the Azzurri limp to a 3-0 defeat to Norway and it has left Italy’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup rather uncertain. As a result, Spalletti’s future is in doubt.
Calciomercato have reported that the Italian is at high risk of being sacked and the decision could be made in a meeting. FIGC believe that the change in manager can bring about a much-needed jolt in the squad and Pioli is the leading candidate to replace Spalletti.
Contact has been made for him and this has happened after attempt was made for Claudio Ranieri. But he is currently an advisor at Roma and can’t take up another role. Another alternative is Daniele de Rossi, who was sacked by Roma last season and was replaced by Ranieri himself. As of now, Pioli is in the driving seat.
