The numbers behind Inter’s incredible Champions League semi-final berth after moving past Bayern Munich

Although this year’s campaign has been rather strange quite frankly given the lack of consistency, coach Simone Inzaghi’s Inter side never ceases to amaze as Lautauro Martinez’s ruthless strike and Benjamin Pavard’s towering header paves the path for the Nerazzurri into the UEFA Champions League final four where they are set to face Barcelona.

The two-legged affair will serve as a rematch of the semi-finals back in 2010,  in which the Beneamata stunned the Spanish giants and became the first Italian club to seize the almighty treble against Bayern in the finals in Madrid.

Following an ecstatic night at thw Stadio San Siro, Sportmediaset breaks-down the accolades of Inter’s superb achievement, in which they flourished when alll the odds were against them and transmitted shock-waves across Europe.

Firstly, this will be the Nerazzurri’s 10th appearance in an UEFA Champions League semi finals, with only Juventus (12) and Milan (13) having more than the Biscione.

In addition, Simone Inzaghi has cemented himself in stone within the history of the club as he is one of only two coaches of Inter to have reached two Champions League semi-finals within three seasons. Prior to the arrival of the former Lazio coach, the Italian club have been unable to reach the semi-finals for twelve years.

Furthermore, Lautaro Martinez has proven to be pivotal this season despite his sluggish start as he is the first Inter player to score in five consecutive Champions League appearances, showcasing his world-class ability at the phase of the campaign where it is needed most.

Moreover, Inter have managed to maintain a 15 unbeaten streak at home within the Champions League, the longest run without a defeat on a club’s home soil within the history of the European competition, establishing their dominance at the San Siro regardless of the opponent.
