Werder Bremen are monitoring Julian Brandt’s situation at Borussia Dortmund, according to Sky Germany. The 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the Signal Iduna Park and despite nine goal contributions in 26 Bundesliga games this season, has received criticism from BVB fans.
After an up-and-down season, Brandt is reportedly a potential candidate to leave the club in the summer, which would be the last transfer window in which Dortmund would be able to command a fee in the event that the club’s No. 10 doesn’t sign a contract extension beyond 2026.
As per Sky Germany, Dortmund would allow Brandt to leave should they receive a suitable offer. BVB’s playmaker is currently valued at €25m by Transfermarkt.
But a potential sticking point for Bremen is the player’s salary. Brandt earns a reported salary between €8m and €9m at Dortmund and would therefore have to take accept a pay cut if he was to join Bremen in the summer.
Speaking to Sport1 in January 2023, Brandt, who was born in Bremen, said: “As a little kid, I always planned to become a professional and return to Bremen at some point.”
