Werder Bremen boosted their European chances with a solid victory over third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. In contrast, the Eagles will now head into the first-leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie after a defeat.
“This was a deserved win. We were the better team in every phase of the game,” Ole Werner praised his team in the post-match press conference. “It was one of our best performances of the season. We set the pace, and we were very clinical with our chances.”
Frankfurt’s Dino Toppmöller agrees with the result being a reflection of the performances of the teams. “We had no grip on the match in the first half. Bremen were sharper, hungrier, and better in the duels. We tried to do better in the second half, but just weren’t good enough in possession today.
“We need to improve in that regard against Tottenham. It’s a painful defeat today,” added Toppmöller.
