As reported in Monday’s edition of Kicker, Bayern Munich plan to extend the contract of Alexander Nübel (25), who is on loan at AS Monaco for the 2022/23 season, beyond 2025.
The Rekordmeister see Nübel as a successor to Manuel Neuer (36), who has a contract until 2024. Mid-way through a two-year loan at Principality side ASM, Nübel has played 54 games across all competitions.
A dilemma for Bayern would be that should Neuer want to play beyond 2024 then they would have to sell Nübel, who wants regular playing time at this stage in his career.
Alongside Gabriel Vidović (18) and Paul Wanner (16), Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić sees Nübel as part of the next generation at the club.
Nübel joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer from Schalke in 2020, but has struggled to establish himself as the No. 1 ahead of Neuer. Since his move from the Royal Blues, Nübel played just four games in the 2020/21 season – two in the Champions League, and one apiece in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal.
